ABOUT
Johannes is a freelance Director of Photography based in Berlin.
He began his career in 2014 with an apprenticeship as an Audiovisual Media Designer at Bayerischer Rundfunk, followed by a trainee position at ARRI Rental in 2017.
Johannes works across both documentary and fiction films. His projects have been showcased at numerous film festivals. In 2026 he got nominated for the German Cinematography Award for his work on ‚Ada and the Trip of her Life‘ and in February 2024 he won the Best Cinematography award at the European Cinematography Awards for his work on ‚The Hall under the River‘.
His distinctive visual style is shaped by a blend of experience on documentary shoots and controlled fiction film sets. Whether hanging from a rope 8 meters high or riding on the back of a quad bike, Johannes pushes his limits to bring his vision to life.
Before becoming a DoP, he worked as an Assistant Camera and QTake Operator on major international productions, including The Hunger Games, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, and various Netflix, Amazon, HBO and Apple TV+ series. This experience has given him a unique perspective, allowing him to think on a grand scale in his own work as a DoP.
