ABOUT
Johannes is a freelance Director of Photography based in Berlin.
He works across both documentary and fiction films. His projects have been showcased at numerous film festivals. In 2026 he got nominated for the German Cinematography Award for his work on ‚Ada and the Trip of her Life‘ and in February 2024 he won the Best Cinematography award at the European Cinematography Awards for his work on ‚The Hall under the River‘.
Before becoming a DoP, he worked as an Assistant Camera and QTake Operator on major international productions, including The Hunger Games, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, and various Netflix, Amazon, HBOmax and Apple TV+ series. This experience has given him a unique perspective, allowing him to think on a grand scale in his own work as a DoP.
His distinctive visual style is shaped by a blend of experience on large fiction film sets and documentary shoots. Whether hanging from a rope 8 meters high or riding on the back of a quad bike, Johannes pushes his limits to bring his vision to life.
